The Olde English Screened Addition – North Raleigh, NC

For this custom project, we named it “The Olde English” due to its European-inspired style. The home’s interior featured ornate trim work, and our goal was to seamlessly extend that same aesthetic into the new screened addition.

We began with conventional framing practices but enhanced the structure with ornamental timber rafters and cross members to mimic the look of timber framing. The standout feature? True elliptical arches, not veneer cutouts. These arches are visible both inside and out, and if the homeowners ever choose to enclose the space, the arches can remain intact, allowing for future insulation.

A hip roof structure was chosen to allow for natural light. To enhance this, we installed four Velux skylights, which brighten the space while maintaining the classic design. We also installed a durable tile floor with a soldier course perimeter, tying in the European style.

The attention to detail continued in the handrails, where we used 4-stage routed banisters, custom-milled on site. The brick foundation and stairs match the house’s original foundation perfectly, providing a cohesive look.

Throughout the process, the homeowners were very collaborative, and together we created a space that blends craftsmanship, style, and functionality. This project is a perfect example of how our design-build approach can transform a space, and we are thrilled with the results.

The Olde English screened addition remains one of our most popular examples of custom carpentry, often showcased to new clients to demonstrate what’s possible in their own homes.
